Access Team

The Coordinated Access Team provides access to AMHS-KFLA services through a single entry point. Individuals (aged 18 or older) meet with the access team to determine what service(s) or program(s) would best meet their needs. Access forms can be picked up at AMHS-KFLA locations or online (click here). You must have a confirmation of mental health diagnosis, or an addiction to access AMHS-KFLA services. If you don’t have a diagnosis, or are unsure about how to get one contact the Access Team and they can help you navigate the diagnosis process and/or provide information. Vocational Services

Category: Education, Employment and Training
Ages: 7-24, Adults
Vocational Services supports individuals who are experiencing mental illness and/or addiction in accessing and succeeding in employment and educational opportunities. Individuals can access programs and services that encourage skills development, vocational counselling, ODSP-Employment supports, educational support, job placement, job support, job retention, and more. Individuals can participate in various programs, depending on where they are on their employment and/or educational path. Dual diagnosis supports (individuals diagnosed with both a mental illness and developmental delay) are also available. Vocational Services are free, and open to youth and adults (18 years of age and older). Individuals must be referred by the Access Team (see above). Contact AMHS-KFLA for more information.

Youth Small Business Program

Category: Education, Employment and Training
Ages: 7-24, Adults
The Youth Small Business Program is a free course for youth (aged 16 to 29) who are interested in launching or growing a small business. Youth attend 22 classes over 11 weeks, where they learn the skills needed to run a business, including developing a business plan. The curriculum was developed using Rotman School of Management’s Designworks model for creative, customer-centric business design workshops. Youth also receive in class coaching from business professionals. Upon graduation, youth receive a $500 grant to start their business, and have access to low-interest business loans. To be eligible, youth must self-identify as having/had a mental health or addictions challenge, and cannot be enrolled in full time schooling (part-time is acceptable). Individual Lending Program

Ages: 7-24, Adults
Rise offers low-interest loans to launch or grow small businesses. Through character based lending, Rise considers not just credit history but also an individual’s commitment to get their finances back on track. Rise offers loans up to $10,000 with an average initial loan size in the $3,000 – $4,000 range. Event Lending is also available – small-scale loans for individuals who sell their products through festivals, fairs, trade-shows, pop-up shops, or other events. With the loans, individuals can also access mentorship and support in developing and growing their business. A business plan must be submitted with the application. To be eligible, individuals must self-identify as having experienced mental health and/or addiction challenges and be unable to access traditional bank financing. Making Connections Drop-in

Ages: 7-24, Adults
AMHS-KFLA offers a weekly workshop schedule providing psycho-education around different topics. This is also an opportunity for individuals (aged 18 or older) to access support while on an agency wait list. Topics include: Community Resources, Self-Care Plans, Healthy Living, Addictions, Managing Emotions, and more. Workshops are held on Thursdays from 1:00pm to 2:30pm at the 385 Princess St. location (upstairs). Workshops are free, and no appointment or registration is necessary. Assertive Community Treatment Team(s) (ACTT)

Ages: 7-24, Adults
ACTT provides support to individuals (aged 18 or older) with serious complex mental illnesses, frequent and/or long hospitalizations, and/or high-service needs. A multi-disciplinary clinical team provides 24 hour, mobile services based on a client’s need and in their environment of choice. Individuals must be referred through the Access Team (see above). Supported Independent Living Program (SIL)

Category: Disability and/or Mental Health Support Services, Health and Wellness, Housing
Ages: 7-24, Adults, Seniors
The SIL program supports individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health issues. Individual support plans and goals are developed and monitored in partnership. Opportunities for life-skills development and daily activities skills, such as managing a home, budgeting finances, meal planning and prep, self-care and managing health, are available. Support can also be provided to individuals when attending appointments. Referrals are received through Developmental Services Ontario, and services are free of charge. Court Support Services

Category: Disability and/or Mental Health Support Services
Ages: 7-24, Adults
AMHS-KFLA helps those charged with minor court offences who are struggling with a serious mental illness and/or substance use. Individuals receive support and information throughout the duration of their court proceedings, and can be referred to mental health and/or addiction treatment if appropriate. Information can also be provided for families, friends or other concerned parties. Court Support Services are free of charge. Contact AMHS-KFLA for more information.

Crisis Services

Crisis services are available to support people during crisis through effective intervention to keep them in their community. Individuals can access Crisis Services through the walk-in services (Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm) or a 24-hour crisis telephone line (613-544-4229). A mobile crisis team is also available to go directly to the individual if needed (Monday to Friday 8:30am to Midnight; Saturday and Sunday 12:00pm to Midnight). Anyone can access the crisis services, free of charge.

Case Management Services

Category: Health and Wellness, Housing
Ages: 7-24, Adults
AMHS-KFLA offers one-to-one support for clients focusing on recovery. Working in partnership with the case manager, individuals develop skills in activities of daily living, management of mental health symptoms and goal development. Short-term, transitional case management is also available. Individuals must be referred by the Access Team (see above). Case Management services are free of charge and open to youth and adults, 18 years of age and older. Contact AMHS-KFLA for more information. 

Addictions Services

AMHS-KFLA provides a range of treatment options for individuals with substance use and/or gambling concerns, as well as services for family members and significant others. Supports include: individual counselling, psycho-educational and therapy groups, family counselling, rural outreach, pregnant and/or parenting programs, gambling services, and more. Addiction services are free of charge for individuals, 18 years of age or older. Individuals must be referred by the Access Team (see above). Contact AMHS-KFLA for more information.

Family Resource Centre

The Family Resource Centre offers information and referral services for family members of individuals with mental illness and/or addiction issues. Families can access books, magazines, journals and videos. The Family Resource Centre also offers support groups. Contact AMHS-KFLA for more information.
