Health Care and Counselling Services

The Street Health Centre is a 365 days a year harm reduction health centre. Health services are available for individuals that fall within the priority population (people who use injection, inhalant, and illicit drugs, involved in the sex trade, high-risk youth, homeless, recently release form incarceration) and do not have a family doctor. The centre also offers counselling services to support individuals on a variety of issues – including basic needs, referrals, sexual health, mental health, help quitting smoking, substance abuse, practical needs and more. There is no cost to access these services. Contact Street Health for more information.

Methadone Maintenance Treatment

This treatment provides standard care for people living with opioid dependence. Methadone is a form of oral substitution treatment – providing a safe, legal maintenance routine which, when combined with counselling and other medical care, dramatically improves health status, functional stability and quality of life. Walk-ins are welcome. Contact Street Health for more information.

Hepatitis C Program

The holistic program addresses the varied needs of a person with Hepatitis C involving the physical, emotional, and practical needs of the individuals. Nurse Practitioners, Counsellors, Physicians and Registered Nurses and Psychiatrists work together. A Hepatitis C support group is also offered, as well as a Peer Program. Contact Street Health for more information.

Needle Exchange and Harm Reduction

Individuals who use injection and inhalant drugs can access clean, free, sterile equipment at the Street Health Centre. Individuals can access: needles and syringes, sterile water, tourniquets, Vit C, spoons, stericups and alcohol preparation pads, as well as other materials. Use of the Needle Exchange is strictly confidential. Outreach, though the street health van, is available Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.
